Ken Kempson was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1949, was educated in England and then Scotland, before spending most of his working career in Africa. His first still camera was the Brownie. Then he graduated to using Olympus OM equipment. With the arrival of his children even this light equipment became burdensome, and so when he began using the new video cameras to capture images of his young family the results seemed more much appealing and so this medium replaced his SLR equipment. However, on retirement to Portugal in 2002 he began examining the new digital versions of SLRs, and he now shoots with Canon equipment, spending very little time on post-production processing. He enjoys the shooting opportunities and the learning of new techniques that occur within the APG.
